Join us for the 2024 International Cooperation Brunch: A Unique Opportunity to Discover Volunteering Abroad

Posted Aug 28th, 2024 in Africa, Media Releases, News, VETS

MONTREAL, September 3, 2024 – The second annual International Cooperation Brunch will be held on Saturday, September 21, 2024, from 10:00am to 2:00pm EST at Fabrik 8 in Montreal. This free event is designed to unite individuals passionate about making a global impact, offering them a unique opportunity to connect with development professionals and volunteers while exploring a wide range of international volunteer opportunities.

This year, the event brings together 12 international cooperation organizations, all part of Canada’s Volunteer Cooperation Program (VCP). These organizations provide unique opportunities to engage in missions across Central and South America, as well as Africa. The missions, which range from a few weeks to 12 months, cover a wide array of sectors, including communication and marketing, project management, gender equality, environmental conservation, animal health, agriculture, philanthropy, entrepreneurship, human rights, and more.

Brunch attendees, whether young professionals or seasoned experts, will have the chance to explore volunteer roles that align with their skills and experience, all while contributing to impactful international cooperation efforts.

The Brunch will also offer a unique window into the realities of fieldwork. Through a photo exhibition, inspiring testimonials, and direct interactions with volunteers working in the field, attendees will gain valuable insights into how their expertise can be applied to support local communities and drive sustainable change for program partners and the populations they serve. In addition to the planned activities, participants will enjoy a free gourmet brunch throughout the event.

Note: The event is open to everyone, but only Canadian citizens or permanent residents are eligible to apply for a voluntary cooperation opportunity.

Participating NGOs: International Bureau for Children's Rights, Carrefour International, Catalyste+, Co-operative Development Foundation of Canada (CDFC), Centre for International Studies and Cooperation (CECI), Cuso International, World University Service of Canada (WUSC), Paul Gérin-Lajoie Foundation (in consortium with Éducation Internationale and the Fédération des Cégeps), Oxfam-Québec, SUCO (Solidarity Union Cooperation), UPA Développement International, and Veterinarians Without Borders North America/Vétérinaires Sans Frontières Amerique du Nord (VWB/VSF).

About VWB/VSF: Founded in 2005, Veterinarians Without Borders/Vétérinaires sans frontières (VWB/VSF) is a non-profit, charitable organization dedicated to improving community health through enhanced animal health. Recognizing the vital connections between healthy animals, people, and environments, we employ a “One Health” approach that integrates animal welfare with human well-being and environmental stewardship. We work with diverse partners to strengthen community-centered animal health systems, directly benefiting the people and environments that rely on them. As the North American affiliate of VSF International, VWB/VSF operates independently, with ongoing programs in Africa, Asia, Northern Canada, and Europe. Our efforts focus on disease prevention, sustainable livelihoods, equitable access to resources, capacity building, and humanitarian relief, reaching over 1 million people annually. Learn more: www.vwb.org

About the VCP: The Volunteer Cooperation Program (VCP) offers qualified Canadians the opportunity to participate in Canada's international development efforts. The program supports Canadian organizations that send a wide range of Canadian volunteers eager to dedicate their time and expertise to communities in developing countries. Volunteers can be professionals and experts, young leaders, or retired or semi-retired professionals. By providing targeted support and strengthening the capacities of local organizations, volunteers make a difference in various sectors while helping to advance Canada's Feminist International Assistance Policy. Volunteer placements can be short- or long-term (from 2 weeks up to a year). Placements include pre-departure and reintegration training. There are also some virtual volunteering opportunities. The VCP (2020-2028) aims to deploy more than 10,000 Canadian volunteers in approximately fifty developing countries.
