Veterinarians Without Borders Canada launches Animals and Ales Photo Contest, in partnership with Fixed Gear Brewing Co. and Luppolo Brewing Co., in support of animals in need

Posted Apr 27th, 2023 in Media Releases, News

OTTAWA, ON, April 27, 2023 - Veterinarians Without Borders/Vétérinaires Sans Frontières Canada (VWB/VSF) is “paws-itively” thrilled to launch its very first Animals and Ales Photo Contest, in partnership with Fixed Gear Brewing Co. (Guelph, Ont.) and Luppolo Brewing Co. (Vancouver, B.C.). The contest will launch on World Veterinary Day (April 29, 2023) and run for three weeks, ending May 16, 2023. This online photo contest will allow pet owners (19+) from coast to coast to coast to submit their favourite pet photos for the chance to be featured on the label of a limited-release beer at either Fixed Gear Brewing or Luppolo Brewing (one winner per brewery). Contest winners will be determined based on the number of votes for each photo.

“This is such a fun way to celebrate animals and those who love them, while also honouring and supporting veterinarians who take care of our non-human friends and family members,” said Charmaine Brett, executive director at VWB/VSF. “By partnering with two Canadian breweries, we are continuing in the spirit of lifting each other up by encouraging pet owners to celebrate their beloved pets while simultaneously helping animals and communities, worldwide, that otherwise have no access to animal care,” said Brett.

Funds raised through VWB/VSF’s Animals and Ales contest will go towards helping companion and farm animals, along with pet owners and farmers, right here in Canada as well as globally in 10 countries. Through VWB/VSF’s teams of volunteers and partners, we offer otherwise inaccessible veterinary services, along with capacity-building agricultural training.

As animal-lovers, Fixed Gear Brewing and Luppolo Brewing agreed to partner with VWB/VSF in support of their non-human friends.

"Our ethos has always been to create a welcoming atmosphere at our brewery for the whole family, pets included," said Brendan Roberts, director of operations and community relations at Fixed Gear Brewing Co. "We have had the pleasure of hosting countless pets over the last five years, and now we are very excited to be able to produce a special release featuring someone’s best friend. We recognize the incredibly important work Veterinarians Without Borders does and are proud to be able to contribute to their mission," said Roberts.

"We’re thrilled to be partnering with such an amazing organization," said Anique Ross, co-owner/operator at Luppolo Brewing Co. "As animal lovers, (as our spoilt brewery dog, Shelby, will attest), we couldn’t say no to such  a fun contest for a great cause," added Ross.

Full contest details, including how to enter, can be found here. Contest entries open on April 29, 2023, at 9:00 a.m. ET/6:00 a.m. PT.

About Veterinarians Without Borders/Vétérinaires Sans Frontières

Using a One Health approach, Veterinarians Without Borders (VWB) works for, and with, communities in need to foster the health of animals, people and the environments that sustain us. VWB works in Africa and Asia to improve the living conditions of the most disadvantaged rural populations through veterinary and agricultural services, sustainable animal production, training, value chain development and sustainable natural resource management. Additionally, we support remote Northern Canadian communities to improve animal health through temporary spay and neuter clinics, reduce the spread of rabies, and work to create the conditions for long-term, community-led sustainable animal health services. VWB/VSF also responds to crises, worldwide, and is currently providing emergency support in Ukraine, Pakistan, South Sudan, and Turkey to address the growing needs of animals and communities.
