Veterinarians Without Borders announces matching year-end gift for emergency Ukrainian funding

Posted Dec 27th, 2022 in Media Releases, News, Northern Canada

OTTAWA, ON (December 27, 2022) - Veterinarians Without Borders/Vétérinaires Sans Frontières (VWB/VSF) is excited to announce a matching gift of up to $12,000 for its Ukrainian emergency funding thanks to the incredible generosity of Dr. Chas Povey, P3 Veterinary Partners, and an anonymous donor. This critical funding will go towards on-the-ground partners who are providing food and shelter to animals in need that, due to ongoing bombings, are without heat and power this winter -- like much of Ukraine. As the war goes on, the need for help is growing, as more Ukrainian infrastructure is damaged.

"The incredible generosity of our donors to help communities and animals in need across Ukraine is truly inspiring," said Charmaine Brett, executive director at VWB/VSF. "With this funding, our partners will be able to purchase much needed generators that will provide heat and power in the winter's frigid temperatures".

This matching gift opportunity means that donors who make a gift by year's end will have their donation matched, making double the impact for animals in need. Along with purchasing generators, this funding will ensure that our partners' pet food delivery programs continue to receive food and have the ability to transport food as required. Due to the war, supply chains have become unreliable, making access to pet food very challenging for shelters and pet owners.

About Veterinarians Without Borders/Vétérinaires Sans Frontières

Using a One Health approach, Veterinarians Without Borders (VWB) works for, and with, communities in need to foster the health of animals, people and the environments that sustain us. VWB works in Africa and Asia to improve the living conditions of the most disadvantaged rural populations through veterinary and agricultural services, sustainable animal production, training, value chain development and sustainable natural resource management. Additionally, we support remote Northern Canadian communities to improve animal health through temporary spay and neuter clinics, reduce the spread of rabies, and work to create the conditions for long-term, community-led sustainable animal health services. VWB is also providing emergency support in Ukraine and Romania to address the growing needs of animals and communities.
